Just Me and The Alpine Loop

Yesterday, I went up into the mountains for an outing, by myself, on an ordinary weekday, while Peter was at work. That has not happened since before I birthed my firstborn.

I have a couple of things to say about trading babysitting with neighbors: Hallelujah, Amen! The last two weeks I had too much to do so I didn't do anything fun on my free morning. Yesterday, again, I had too much to do. So I blew it all off and headed for the hills for a couple of hours.

Hallelujah, Amen!

I had the trail entirely to myself on the way up.

*This hat features in every outdoor cold weather photo of me from the last 8 years. I keep thinking I'll buy another hat. But then, this one has never failed to keep my head warm and it seems silly to buy a new hat solely to lend some variety to the family photo album.

**I also took some self portraits facing the camera. They were not fit for human optical consumption. It was just as well there was no one else on the trail.

I did come across a musher with a full team of sled dogs on my way back down. I thought that was pretty cool. Then I got to ski through what the full team of sled dogs had left behind.

How I envy you that outing. And your last remark really cracked me up.

How did you get that shot of the back of your head. How limber you must be.

I have been thinking of you today, I must have known you had such a great mountain alone time. I know and love the feeling of being alone while skiing. Funny that it only takes one day like that to last years. Times have changed, haven't they?

Wowsers - I have heard of this phenomenon, of people doing physical activity without children hanging on them... but I'm glad to see photographic evidence that it can actually be done by real people

Thank you for posting those beautiful pictures. You see, I would never choose to go out in the cold, especially by myself, so moments like those are incredibly foreign to me. I appreciate getting to see what I'm missing out on. Perhaps I should leave the laundry one of these days and head for the hills.
BTW, that hat is incredibly trendy right now (I know this because my 10 year old really wanted one, not because I am in any way shape or form style savvy). So, you are a trend-setter! Oh, and I desperately wish you would have posted a self portrait, but alas, I understand completely. If I had a dime for every self portrait that's been deleted from my camera, I could afford 1000 of those trendy hats. Whoa. Long post...my apologies. I'm done now.
