Today's Examples of What Happens When I Undertake a Project

I had just finished filling the pans with batter for Jane's birthday cake when Adam decided to try out the latch on the springform pan -- you know, the latch that releases the bottom of the pan from the sides.

BONUS!: At the same time this was happening, Ellen was coloring on the leather ottoman with a green marker.

Two modern inventions to love: silicone spatulas (I was able to salvage almost all of the batter for a second attempt) and Crayola washable markers (all of the green came off).

Yes washable markers are a life saver. Although I'm afraid they also encourage discretionary house vandalism.

We have ballpoint pen on our leather couches. It hasn't come off yet. (Also on our fabric couch.) I'm trying to figure out a way to always have a pen handy for ME and never for my children. Unfortunately I think the solution would involve my moving out . . .

It is so encouraging to know that one project can create two (or more) messes in a house beside our own!

What Lili said.

Z: You could wear a beautiful silver filigree pen around your neck, that no one else knows is a pen. Yeah, that'd happen.

Mary, this post made me cry with sympathy.

Mary, I have decided that people make stuff up to put on blogs. I know your intentions are to make us feel better about our situations. It will not work with me. It is too unbelievable. The Mary I know has picture perfect children that all sing exceptionally well. Please, don't mess with the fantasy. I do enjoy keeping up with you and your family. You are so cool.

I, too, have ball point pens on my leather! You just have to wait until someone sits on them long enough that the pen eventually wears off.
